1. I thought the ending of the novel was sad because Santiago caught his dream but then it was destroyed. Santiago felt bad for what had happened to the marlin. 2. I thought the novel as a whole was good because it had a plot twist at the ending (Santiago caught the marlin and sharks attacked). Although there was some deep meaning behind the story it was hard to understand. I also thought it was good because the marlin and Santiago had a strong relationship.
